Botswana is a landlocked nation in Southern Africa that experiences yearly flooding, which creates a thriving animal habitat.
Botswana is a harsh place for animals, but there are still abandoned and hurt dogs there.
The tale of the paralyzed Botswanian dog has touched the hearts of millions of people. The poor little pooch had no choice but to drag herself for kilometers in search of help because of a damaged spine.
Lucky for the unfortunate puppy, it was.
The small puppy was saved by a team of volunteers under the direction of Susanne Vogel who were at the time working in the Northern Okavango region.
They were engaged in a project to reduce confrontations between humans and elephants. The squad was surprised to find the miserable puppy dragging herself into their isolated camp as they looked up.
The young dog approached the volunteer crew when she spotted them and requested help.
The poor dog, subsequently given the name Poppy, obviously needed assistance.
She practically had to crawl inside our study camp because her rear legs were immobilized. She couldn't walk, but Susanne said, "She was full of love and asking for help."
The crew immediately assessed Poppy's condition. The unfortunate dog's spine had been fractured, and she was now paralyzed, so it was obvious that she had been in an accident. After washing and feeding the injured animal, they hurried her to the clinic. However, there was no good news for them.
During a checkup, it was found that Poppy was only seven months old. The tiny pup would benefit from surgery, but she had little to no chance of surviving.
On the other hand, the researchers kept their optimism. They acknowledged Poppy's distinction.
Despite being unable to risk surgery, Poppy started therapy and rehabilitation activities to help strengthen her legs. The volunteers simultaneously put in a lot of effort to generate money for Poppy's ongoing medical expenses and care.
Animal lovers everywhere leaped at the chance to help them save Poppy's life after they humbly appealed for help.
Even though Poppy is still too ill to have surgery, she doesn't seem to be in any pain.
Poppy was ecstatic when she received her own set of wheels to race on.
After countless hours of physical therapy, the courageous puppy ultimately gained strength and is now able to stand on all fours.
In addition, the gorgeous, animated puppy was at last taken into a forever home. Her true parents, MaryBeth Hastings of Washington, D.C., flew her back to the United States. The joy in Poppy's life with her family has just begun!
